Sankofa Arts and Music Foundation
Web Design & Branding
Sankofa Arts is a non-profit organization based in Calgary that celebrates Black youths in the arts. Their programming focuses on creating a space for diversity, inclusion, and acceptance. I volunteered my time to this organization to help expand their reach by designing their logo and website.

The Challenge
As an organization for Black youths in Calgary, Sankofa primarily relied on social media platforms to reach their audience. Their scope grew and the next logical step was to create a website. I volunteered and worked alongside the founder to create a layout that would fit their needs, mocked-up the wireframe for review with content placeholders, and developed the website according to the feedback I received.
Branding
With Sankofa’s expanding reach, they needed an updated logo that reflected their cultural ties. Key elements of this logo included:
“Sankofa”, a symbol of a bird and egg used by the Akan people of Ghana. It represents reaching into the past for knowledge and bringing it into the present.
The colours of the Ghana flag, represented by the red, yellow, and green strips and star.
